"There and Back Again"- Torklift's Trek to the Top

Sometimes, a small bump in the road can seem like a mountain. Here at Torklift International, we take these small hurdles in stride. Like summiting Mount Everest. WHAT?! Yes, Greg and our banner made it to the top . . . and back down. Like most of life's other "mountains", it didn't hurt a bit. In fact, success on Everest has made other challenges seem a bit easier- like continuing to grow at a blistering pace despite the struggling economy!

None the worse for the wear, the Torklift banner will accompany Greg up Mount Denali and Mount McKinley in the next couple months as well before being retired to a framed piece of wall in Torklift International's corporate headquarters in Kent, WA. Although that banner may be retiring, Greg and Torklift are far from finished. In fact, as Greg continues his quest to summit all 7 peaks on all 7 continents, Torklift International will continue our quest to bring the highest quality accessory products to the outdoor recreation world.    Torklift International's Trek to the Top - Part 2

Torklift sponsee Greg Vernovage has made it to Mount Everest base camp Puja! This base camp is slightly below the traditional campsite, but has excellent tent sites and clean water easily accessible. Greg and the team got to watch the very interesting and unique cultural Sherpa puja (blessing), which had Buddhist chanting, butter for luck to smear on crampons and ice axes, prayer flags, giving everyone “gray beard” (using tsampa or roasted barley flour) to wish long life, and finally culminating with singing, dancing, and locally brewed chang beer- what a party!

We got the chance to hang out with Greg a little before he took off for Everest this year while he was getting some updated tie downs for his rig- Torklift tie downs, of course! Greg said he spends roughly 200 days per year on the side of a mountain, but did you know that when he’s not on a mountainside, Greg is a full time RV’er? His Lance truck camper resides atop a dark blue, new body style, Dodge 3500 dually long bed truck. Greg’s home off the mountain sports Torklift tie downs in the front and back and gray, long-range Torklift Fastguns. We asked him why he wanted to be part of the Torklift team…

“I use the best gear when I climb the biggest mountains in the world. I am going to use the best tie-down system out there to protect me when I am off the mountain."

When Greg swings thru Washington again after his Everest summit, he will be having Torklift’s latest innovation put on his rig, the Stableload, to help with some of the off-road handling issues a life of tackling the world’s biggest mountains can present. Just like his state-of-the-art climbing gear, Torklift will be there to safeguard Greg when he gets ready to hit the road again. In the meantime, we’re all preparing to celebrate Greg’s Everest summit coming up around April 18th!

Torklift International's Trek to the Top

There are many “top”s in the world- top of one’s game, top of one’s field, top notch. While most people may be satisfied with achieving one of these, Torklift International continues to stretch. We want to be on the top of the world. Literally. Torklift International Sponsee Greg Vernovage left March 26th for Nepal to summit Mount Everest, the tallest point on earth, and he’s taking Torklift International with him.

Last month Greg stood atop the tallest peak in South America and the Torklift International colors proudly unfurled at the summit of Mount Aconcagua. Next month, the Torklift International standard will be with Greg atop Mount Everest. Mount Everest stands over 29,000 feet tall, and Greg will be coaching an international team of summit hopefuls up a South ridge ascent through the treacherous Khumbu Ice Field. The big summit day is scheduled to be April 18, and we here at the base camp in Kent, WA are hoping to post a picture of our standard bearer on top of the world that week.
