Frame-Mounted Talon Tie Down Features
- Rust-Free Stainless Steel and Aluminum Construction: This Talon tie down is made of stainless steel and aluminum for long-term corrosion resistance.
- Why Stainless Steel and Aluminum Matter: Truck camper tie downs are constantly exposed to road spray, debris, moisture, and changing weather conditions. Stainless steel and aluminum help to eliminate rust, extend the life of the tie down system, and keep the removable insert and receiver area cleaner and easier to maintain over time.
- Lightweight Talon Design: Aluminum helps reduce weight while maintaining the durability needed for a strong frame-mounted camper tie down system. The Talon design gives customers a lighter, rust-free option for long-term truck camper use.
- Included Torklift Tie Down Finishing Kit: This kit includes the Torklift Tie Down Finishing Kit ($44 value). The finishing caps cover the tie down receiver openings when the removable inserts are not in use, helping protect the receivers from dirt, water, road grime, and environmental damage.
- Improved Handling and Stability: Frame-mounted tie downs help create the most stable connection between the truck and camper for better handling on the road.
- Vehicle-Specific Fit: Each tie down application is engineered for specific truck makes and models for precise, bolt-on fitment.
- Frame-Mounted Design: Attaches to the strongest points of the truck frame instead of relying on the bed or bumper for camper retention.
- Protects the Integrity of the Truck: By transferring load to the frame, this design helps reduce stress on the truck bed and bumper, which can contribute to damage, rust, and paint cracking over time.
- No-Drill Installation: Designed for straightforward installation without drilling into the truck frame or bed on listed applications.
- Ground Clearance Friendly: The design tucks close to the vehicle to help preserve ground clearance. Features a two-piece design with a frame-mounted receiver and removable insert so the tie down attachment point can be removed when not in use for a sleek, back-to-stock look.
- Custom Application Design: Each set is designed around the truck’s specific configuration rather than using a universal fit approach.
- Added Security on the Road: Provides a secure connection point for truck camper transport when used as part of a complete tie down system.
- Independent Tie Down Points: Features four independent tie down points when using front and rear frame tie downs that bolt directly to the truck frame for a dedicated frame-mounted connection.
- Aligned with Manufacturer Recommendations: Truck manufacturers generally recommend attaching loads to the truck frame rather than the bed or bumper whenever possible.
- Bracket-Supported Design: Where applicable, support is routed through bracket and brace structures rather than relying on drilling through the truck frame.
- Lockable Option Available: Compatible with Torklift Tie Down Locks for added theft deterrence.
- Legendary Lifetime Warranty: Backed by Torklift’s Legendary Lifetime Warranty.
- Made in the USA: Manufactured in the USA.
Installation Overview: Chevy/GMC C2225A Talon Front Tie Downs
Estimated time: 1 to 1.5 hours, one person, hand tools
- Required tools:
- Safety glasses and gloves
- Floor jack or support stand to hold bracket during start
- Metric/SAE socket set and wrenches, common sizes include 15mm, 18mm, 21mm, 9/16", 5/8", and 3/4"
- Torque wrench capable of 30 to 150 ft-lb
- Trim or panel tool if splash shield needs to be loosened
Important: Always follow the vehicle-specific instruction sheet included with your kit. If any directions here conflict with your printed instructions and bolt markings, follow the instruction sheet and the torque chart provided in the kit.
- Prep the truck
- Park on level ground, set the parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- If equipped, loosen the forward section of the plastic inner fender or splash shield for access to the frame holes at the front cab mount area.
- Identify mounting points
- Locate the front body or cab mount outrigger on each frame rail. The tie down brackets use existing factory holes at the frame outrigger and side web, ahead of the bed and just behind the cabin area.
- Position the bracket
- Hold the driver-side Torklift Talon tie down bracket flush to the frame so the tie down holes align with the factory holes.
- Install hardware finger-tight
- Insert the supplied bolts and spacers through the bracket and frame holes in the orientation shown in your printed instructions. Start all supplied nuts by hand.
- Repeat on the passenger side.
- Square and align
- Ensure both brackets sit flat to the frame, parallel to the rocker panel, and that the removable stainless steel and aluminum Talon inserts slide fully into the receivers without binding. Adjust before torquing.
- Torque to spec
- Torque all hardware according to the printed instruction sheet included with the kit.
- Install removable inserts
- Slide each Talon tie down insert into its receiver and secure with the supplied pin and clip. Verify unobstructed travel and make sure the insert can be fully removed when not in use.
- Install finishing caps when inserts are removed
- When the tie down inserts are removed, install the included Torklift Tie Down Finishing Kit into the receiver openings. These caps help protect the receiver area from dirt, water, road grime, and environmental exposure when the truck camper tie downs are not in use.
Verification checks, do before loading camper:
- Each fastener torqued to spec and paint-marked
- Brackets do not contact brake lines, wiring looms, or body panels
- Insert slides in and out by hand
- Pin and clip seat fully
- Finishing caps fit securely when inserts are removed
- Both receivers are level and at matching heights side-to-side, within ±1/8"
Choosing the Right Torklift Tie Down Setup
- Turnbuckles
- SpringLoad turnbuckles tensioned to 300 ft-lbs are required to reduce stress on camper and tie down anchor points and help protect from damage. Best-selling Torklift Original FastGuns come equipped with a quick-release handle for added convenience.
- Avoid rigid or chain connections, as they can overload camper anchor points.
- Rear Tie Downs
- This page lists front tie downs only, part number C2225A Talon. Matching rear part numbers vary by truck configuration. Use Find Your Fit to confirm the correct rear tie down for your setup.
- For the best corrosion resistance across the full tie down system, pair the C2225A Talon front tie downs with the correct Talon rear tie downs when available for your truck configuration.
Maintenance and Inspection Checklist
Intervals:
- Initial: 50 to 100 miles after first install and after first loaded trip.
- Ongoing: Every trip or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first. Inspect monthly in winter or salt conditions and before and after significant off-road travel.
Inspect:
- Fastener torque
- Bracket-to-frame contact with no gaps or fretting marks
- Stainless steel and aluminum Talon inserts are free of deformation, corrosion, or binding
- Receiver openings are clear of dirt, salt, and road grime
- Pin and clip are secure
- Replace pin or clip if bent, worn, or corroded
- Turnbuckles have proper spring preload per manufacturer instructions
- No cracked welds or bent hooks
- Camper anchors have no elongation or cracking
If wear is found:
- Dirt, salt, or road grime: Rinse the receiver area and removable inserts with clean water, especially after winter driving, beach trips, salted roads, or off-road use.
- Damaged hardware: Replace with equivalent grade from the original kit only.
- Loose fit or rattle: Confirm insert orientation and pin fit, then replace worn pin or clip if needed. Slight movement is intentionally built into the system to allow for easier insertion, even when road grime has built up.
- Finishing cap wear: Inspect the included Torklift Finishing Kit caps regularly. Replace any cap that becomes cracked, loose, or damaged so the receiver openings stay better protected when the inserts are removed.
- Talon maintenance note: The C2225A Talon version is built with stainless steel and aluminum for rust-free corrosion resistance, but hardware, pins, clips, caps, and surrounding vehicle components should still be inspected regularly, especially after exposure to salt, mud, water, or off-road conditions.

What trucks are compatible with Torklift tie downs?
Torklift tie downs are application specific. Use the fitment guidance on torklift.com to select the correct front and rear tie down part numbers for your exact truck, bed length, and configuration.
How do I fish the bolt into the spring hanger?
Fishing a bolt into the bottom of the spring hanger bracket is quite easy. Access is at the bottom of the frame and on the backside closest to the inside of the frame. If you look from the passenger side, it should assist you in locating the exact spot.
Do Torklift tie downs require drilling?
All Torklift tie down applications after 2001 are 100% no drill installations. Installation details can vary by application, so follow the instructions for your specific part number.
What is included with a set of Torklift tie downs?
Tie downs are sold as a pair for one end of the truck, either front or rear, and ship with the required mounting hardware for that application. Turnbuckles are sold separately and are required to connect the tie downs to your camper anchor points.
How many tie downs do I need for a truck camper?
Most truck camper setups use four tie downs total, one pair in the front and one pair in the rear, plus four turnbuckles, one at each corner, to connect the tie downs to the camper anchor points.
What is the difference between standard tie downs and Talon tie downs?
Torklift offers multiple tie down series. Talon tie downs use stainless steel and aluminum components for excellent corrosion resistance while maintaining the same frame mounted tie down function. Exact materials and features vary by series and part number.
Can I remove the tie down inserts when I am not hauling my camper?
Torklift tie downs use a removable insert design. You can remove the insert with a pin and clip when the camper is not loaded, leaving the brackets tucked up under the truck and maintaining ground clearance.
What turnbuckles should I use with Torklift tie downs?
We recommend using properly rated turnbuckles designed for truck camper tie down use. Spring loaded turnbuckles are preferred because they help manage the dynamic movement that occurs while driving. Troubleshooting and common issues
-
Holes won’t line up with the frame
-
Loosely install all bolts first, including spacers, then square the bracket. Confirm you’re on the correct side (LH vs RH). Temporarily loosening the plastic splash shield often improves access and alignment.
-
Rattle/clunk noise under load
-
Verify the removable insert is pinned through both receiver ears and the correct hole. Check turnbuckle spring preload and eliminate slack. Inspect for contact with steps or rocker under articulation.
-
Interference with steps or splash guards
-
Most OE steps clear. If interference occurs, adjust the step bracket slightly per manufacturer allowance or use a low-profile step. Reinstall or trim plastic shields only as permitted; do not modify metal structure.
-
Boxed frame/subframe differences
-
Use only the supplied spacers in the orientation shown in your instruction sheet. Do not add washers to “shim” the bracket unless directed by Torklift support/engineering. If your truck has non-OE frame/upfit changes, contact Torklift Support.
-
Insert difficult to remove
-
Lightly clean the receiver and apply a thin film of dry lube. Confirm the bracket is not torqued while misaligned; loosen, realign, and re-torque if needed. Replace any bent pins/clips.
-
Tie-down angle looks off
-
With the camper loaded and suspension settled, the turnbuckle should run slightly downward from camper anchor to tie-down insert. If extreme angles occur, verify you have the correct kit and proper insert orientation.
