The StableLoad suspension enhancement is now available in stainless steel!

IMG 0714 2At Torklift, we are dedicated to producing the latest and greatest and our StableLoad suspension upgrade is no different! With our original design, our customers are able to feel the dramatic improvement at an affordable cost that the StableLoad provides to their truck suspension.

The StableLoad suspension enhancement manufactured out of stainless steel dramatically improves vehicle handling characteristics by "pre-activating" the stabilizing effect already designed into your rear springs by keeping them actively under load the way your vehicle factory engineers designed them to operate. It’s also the only suspension enhancement that you can turn on and off so you can return to your factory ride when not towing or hauling.

Now available in stainless steel, you have both the option of our original steel powder coated lower StableLoad as well as the NEW stainless steel version. The stainless steel StableLoad not only is non-corrosive but also enhances the look of your truck to make it stand out as the envy of other truck owners. What does that mean for you? This means that the stainless steel will keep the StableLoads looking new without a layer of protective powder coat and working great to meet and exceed the toughest demands from avid sportsmen and adventurers. These suspension upgrades are always ready to push the envelope with you while keeping your family, truck and whatever you’re hauling safe.

SL SS Cut3 1You may be asking why make the StableLoad also available in stainless steel along with our original steel design? Stainless steel is known to be an incredibly strong metal – so why not create a version of the StableLoad out of this durable metal as well? Similar to our rugged truck camper Talon Tie Downs that are made from both military grade aluminum and stainless steel, our new stainless steel StableLoads are built for tough conditions. Our engineers developed these ultra high performance suspension enhancements to handle the toughest climates and terrain. Whether you head out onto the coastal beaches or up to the mountain heights into the snow and ice where harsh chemical treatments are prevalent, nothing outperforms stainless steel StableLoads.

IMG 0704 2Manufacturers spent millions of dollars and over a hundred years investing in truck suspensions to ensure TWO major things: that it rides like a car and is comfortable, as well as its ability to safely tow or haul incredibly heavy loads. When a truck is loaded, the spring pack engages when you’re towing or hauling. On a truck without StableLoads, once you begin to tow or haul with your truck, pressure is applied too late on the factory overload stabilizer springs of your vehicle’s suspension. The problem is in this case, that there isn’t enough stability to support the load, resulting in poor handling characteristics. Here are just a few towing issues you may have experienced with no StableLoad installed:

• Side-to-Side Sway
• Body Roll
• Porpoising
• Truck Sag/Squat

Watch the video below to see how StableLoads stand up against other products like airbags, sway bars and more.

How Sway Control Works on a Trailer

SwayBar Don't let  your trailer get out of hand by swaying too much!

Towing a travel trailer behind your truck can be hazardous if not done properly and can be made more dangerous by the tendency of a trailer to sway. When a trailer isn’t balanced properly, it gives enough leverage to affect the movement of the towing vehicle. This causes a back-and-forth movement that is known as sway, or fishtailing. A well-balanced trailer with a proper trailer hitch  installed can correct itself in the event of minor sway caused by wind, passing vehicles, rutted roadways and more.

But, in order to avoid these issues of fishtailing and sway, what can you do? There are a couple of options – and one of them is to install sway control on your trailer. The use of a sway control improves the ability of a trailer to resume normal towing alignment.

SwayBar2Function of the Sway Control
There are a few different kinds of sway control available. The two most common types include independent friction sway control and dependent two-point sway control. Independent sway control is designed to bolt onto your trailer tongue and features telescoping arms and friction pads to stop sway once it’s begun. Two-point dependent sway control is designed to be built into a weight distribution system and relies on the springs to create enough friction to prevent fishtailing and sway.

Another major aspect to consider for sway control is tension. These trailer accessories have tension controls that are tightened manually and must be  adjusted to reflect road  conditions. Over-tightening the sway control on your trailer can result in the trailer having a reduced ability to follow easily through turns. Under-tightening the sway control can  prevent the sway bar from functioning efficiently and will not reduce sway adequately.

Are there other products that can help with towing instability?
SwayBar3While sway control is designed to be installed around the trailer tongue and directly help the trailer, there are other products available that can help improve towing stability as well. The StableLoad suspension upgrade is meant to assist your truck with heavy towing or hauling. Installed on your truck’s rear overload suspension, it dramatically improves vehicle handling characteristics by "pre-activating" the stabilizing effect and keeping the springs actively under load.

Vehicle factory engineers designed suspension overload springs to operate in a specific way, and the StableLoad maintains all four points of contact in the springs rather than reducing it to two points of contact like other aftermarket suspension products. When installed on your truck and combined with the sway control installed on your trailer tongue, you have the ultimate stability and safety while towing a trailer behind your truck.SwayBar4

StableLoad Cost Blog 2What is a StableLoad?

A StableLoad improves the vehicle’s handling by pre-activating the stabilizing effect that was designed for rear suspension by keeping them under load the way the manufacturer’s designed them to function. The quad contact design compliments the specific vehicle engineered suspension that the manufacturers invested millions of dollars developing so you would have a smooth and comfortable ride.

See what the guys from TruckU experienced when they installed the StableLoads:

What’s included in each kit and why do you need it?

StableLoad: Upper Overload Part #A7200- $325.99
This part is designed to replace inefficient factory overload bump stop pads, putting the upper load springs to work faster. This kit is quick and easy to install and requires no drilling with serious results. It’s installed by bolting each StableLoad onto each overload, replacing the bump stop pad. This kit fits any vehicle with an upper overload, and works the same regardless of the vehicle having or not having aftermarket air bags.

StableLoad Cost Blog 3StableLoad: Quick Disconnect (lower overload) Part #A7310 -$325.99

What is the best aftermarket suspension for my truck?

TLI SL Blog 1Once you start to tow or haul with your truck, pressure is applied on the factory overload springs of your vehicle’s suspension. The leaf springs on your vehicle are designed as a spring pack with upper and lower overload leaf springs. When the vehicle is loaded the spring pack engages. The problem here is that there isn’t enough stability to support the load, giving you scary handling characteristics.

Just a few you may have experienced:

- Side-to-Side Sway
- Body Roll
- Porpoising
- Truck Sag (This has a multitude of negative effects on your vehicle)

With lack of control you’ll find yourself gripping your steering wheel hard. The key to getting the stability you need is harnessing the power within the much thicker, much stronger overload leaf springs. Activating the overload leaf springs gives you increased stability and handling while towing or hauling. How can you access this extra power? That’s where the StableLoads save the day! Torklift’s StableLoads fill the gap between the leaf spring pack and the overload leaf springs, pre-activating the stabilizing affects already built into your truck’s suspension.

There are many suspension products on the market that you could consider. But how do you know what product you need? If you’re experiencing more than one symptom, the StableLoad tackles all of the handling issues, instead of many of other products that just address one.

TLI SL Blog 2

Let’s explore the options for upgrading truck suspension:

ShocksTLI SL Blog 3
A shock is a mechanical or hydraulic device designed to absorb and damper shock impulses. It does this by converting the kinetic energy of the shock into heat which is then dissipated. Some shock absorbers allow tuning of the ride by control of the valve by manually adjusting the shock absorber. Manufacture’s say that shocks typically need to be replaced at 50,000 miles.

Pros
• Suspension is adjustable
• Allows you to firm suspension while towing
Cons
• Shocks are expensive
• Maintenance is even more expensive
• Only solves one of many suspension problems you may be facing
• No lifetime warranty

TLI SL Blog 4

Airbags
Airbags are a type of vehicle suspension powered by an electric compressor. The compressor then pumps air into a flexible bellow that is typically made from textile-reinforced rubber. The air pressure will then inflate the bellows and raise the chassis from the axle. Air bags feature adjustable suspension, but usually need to be replaced between 50,000 and 70,000 miles and the price is high.

Pros
• The ability to lift/level a vehicle for towing
Cons
• Both initial purchase and maintenance is expensive
• With airbags you are reduced to two points of contact instead of four like the vehicle manufacturer intended
• Airbags are notorious for leaking problems – preventing them from holding air
• Only solves one of many suspension problems you may be facing
• No lifetime warranty

TLI SL Blog 5

Bump stops
Bump stops are a compressed suspension component that is designed to prevent metal on metal contact that leads to damage or unsafe driving characteristics. As the suspension undergoes high compression such as hitting a speed bump or dipping into a pothole, the bump stop soaks up the shock. They can easily be shaped with common machining processes, but the downside is that they dissipate energy into the suspension which can actually cause your shocks to work harder, and they take longer to engage.

Pros
• Prevents metal on metal contact
• Absorbs jolts and bumps
Cons
• Bump stops take longer to engage
• Energy is dissipated into the suspension causing your shocks to work harder
• Only solves one of many suspension problems you may be facing
• No lifetime warranty

TLI SL Blog 6

Sway bars
Sway bars help reduce the body roll of a vehicle during fast cornering or irregularities in the road. It connects the opposite wheels together through short lever arms linked by a torsion spring. Over time the sway bar link ball joints wear out and they will need to be replaced.

Pros
• Reduces body roll
Cons
• Increased weight transfer to already overloaded outside tires (reducing traction)
• Can cause cracked mounts
• Stiffens suspension contributing to a rougher ride
• Only solves one of many suspension problems you may be facing
• No lifetime warranty

Let’s turn to science to see which suspension upgrade is most effective:

For this test an inclinometer is used to measure horizontal and vertical tilt. The higher the horizontal and vertical tilt register on the inclinometer the less control the driver has over the vehicle.

TLI SL Blog 7Why is the StableLoad the clear winner?
Unlike any other aftermarket suspension upgrade, StableLoads have a quad contact design while other rear suspension products reduce contact to only two points. With the StableLoads, see and feel a dramatic reduction in side-to-side sway, body roll. The StableLoads keep your vehicle level reducing stopping distance, suspension and tire wear. This creates for comfortable and stress free travel. It’s also the only suspension upgrade you can turn on and off with the lower leaf spring design. Click here to learn more about how to engage and disengage the StableLoads in seconds so you can return to your smooth, factory ride when not towing or hauling.

Top 3 Stressors on You and Your Truck

Stressors On You and Your Truck

poundsHave you ever watched the TV show Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel? One of the oldest and most popular television shows on Discovery, the television series tests validity of rumors and myths by applying scientific method. With their experiments, the ultimate truth is exposed and common myths are debunked.

In an effort to reveal the capabilities of Torklift International StableLoad suspension upgrade we too, turned to science. In our own version of Mythbusters, we conducted a series of tests to address an important question:

Do suspension upgrades actually work?
We loaded a 2015 Ford F150 truck with 2,800 pounds to simulate significant payload. For an in-depth assessment, the loaded Ford truck is tested through the top three stressors to your vehicle that replicate common handling issues.

What are the three stressors on you and your truck?

  1. Side-to-side sway = Large pot hole
  2. Porpoising (front-to-back motion) = Speed Bump
  3. Body roll = Cornering

inclinometerAll of these movements create stress on your vehicle and the driver. These three handling issues cause stress because if the vehicle doesn’t have the proper suspension to support its payload, the driver is more likely to lose control of the vehicle.

To measure degrees of movement, an inclinometer was mounted to the Ford F-150 truck. The inclinometer measures horizontal and vertical tilt.

The Ford truck was driven through the course to uncover the best and most effective suspension upgrade for your vehicle. To set a baseline, we recorded measurements of the factory suspension with no suspension upgrades.  Second, we installed airbags at 100-psi air pressure. Finally, we put the StableLoad suspension stabilizeruspension stabilizer to the test.

The results may surprise you.

Take a look:

wedge packThe outcome of our test relied on science to prove StableLoads as the clear winner. Torklift’s version of Mythbusters showed that suspension upgrades actually do work, and that StableLoads have the greatest affect on handling characteristics of a vehicle when it comes to side-to-side sway, porpoising and body roll. If you often use your truck to haul or tow heavy payload, the StableLoads should be the first suspension modification to consider.

What makes StableLoads so effective? It’s simple.

By pre-activating the strength within factory leaf spring suspension, the StableLoads tap into the overload leaf springs for extra support when towing or hauling heavy payload like a truck camper, fifth wheel, or any type of trailer.

The use of precision laser-crafted wedge plates that fill the space between the factory leaf spring pack and overload leaf spring triggers support from the vehicle’s suspension. The power of the factory suspension is initiated and put to maximum use.

Leaf Springs w No StableLoad

Applicable to any truck, van, SUV or small commercial vehicles with factory overload leaf springs, the StableLoads are the only suspension modification that quickly turn on and off based on your preference. If you use your vehicle as a daily driver, simply switch off the lower quick-disconnect StableLoads and enjoy its smooth factory ride.

b2ap3 thumbnail stableload display

StableLoads are also easy to install and most applications bolt on without any need for drilling. In the rare case your vehicle does not have the half-inch hole pre-drilled by the vehicle manufacturer, don’t stress. Our engineers have designed the StableLoad Drill Tool to help. Using specialty cobalt drill bits and a household cordless drill, each leaf spring can be drilled in less than 37 seconds. Learn about our complimentary drill tool rental program here. Call our Tech Support team at 800-246-8132 if you have questions about drilling overload leaf springs.

In conclusion, the results of the StableLoad Test provided significant insight as to how suspension upgrades can help your vehicle handle payload more effectively and reduce the top three stressors on your truck.

In comparison to airbags, the StableLoads performed 30 percent better when it comes to side-to-side sway, front-to-back motion or porpoising is reduced by 20 percent, and body roll showed 10 percent improvement.

By using the inclinometer to measure and analyze vehicle movement, science proves that suspension upgrades greatly impact vehicle handling.
