Torklift International and the Case of the Talon Tie Downs

Linda-with-fishLinda Pruitt, showing off her latest catchOne of our favorite things at Torklift International is hearing stories and questions from our customers. A few weeks ago, we got a message from our great friend Linda Pruitt. She was concerned about the fit of the rear tie-downs on her Torklift SuperHitch.

In her own words:

“Its a 2006 dodge RAM dually, long bed, all original equipment with a Torklift SuperHitch. The new tie-downs can't get enough clearance to bolt in to the pattern on hitch.”

Well, here at Torklift we love our customers and being able to do whatever we can for them to make sure that they can use our products and are happy with our customer service. So we began our detective case: The Case of the Talon Tie Downs.

Research Time
We had already challenged our engineers to develop an ultra-high performance tie down that meets and overcomes the toughest demands of adventurers. So, we decided to challenge them again. We took Linda’s questions to our engineering department. After a bit of time and lots of coffee, they were able to design and create new Talon Tie Down brackets to make sure that the Talons could fit her 2006 Dodge RAM Laramie 3500 without a problem.

Case Solved

“We really like the Talons and can't wait to install them.”
                   -Linda Pruitt

Well, the wait is over! Once the new brackets were created, we sent them to Linda so she could get her camper attached to her truck and go on her way. Linda received her new brackets and here are the final results. Case solved! Check out how great they look. Linda is now ready for whatever her next adventure will throw her way.

“Yea buddy!!! The new re-designed mounts fit like a glove! It is so nice when a company stands behind their product and gets it right. Fishing and camping trip coming up REAL soon!”
                  -Linda Pruitt

We hope Linda has fun on her next big adventure! We are looking forward to hearing more truck camper stories and seeing how the Talon Tie Downs and SuperHitch work out for Linda.

travel-trailerFind storage solutions for your RV
For those experienced with the RV lifestyle, it’s not surprising that tight living quarters are sometimes challenging. With dozens of organizational tips and tricks to help with your storage woes, we’ve gathered some RV storage solutions to get those large real estate items out of the way and available for usage with a much more convenient approach. Extra space in your camper or trailer is always a plus!

Our top three suggestions for RV camping storage solutions are as follows:

#1) PowerArmor storage container for camping gear
With three different box sizes currently available, Torklift International PowerArmor box is the perfect locking storage container available for a variety of uses. The largest sized box, the PowerAmor MAX can hold up to five batteries and comes with adjustable dividers to compartmentalize and organize a custom storage container to fit your needs.

to your trailer tongue

The camping storage box comes with mounting hardware to bolt to your RV, camper bumper, trailer tongue, truck or van. It’s aluminum bright diamond plate and black high impact powder coated frame prevent corrosion and rust, making this storage container a high quality and durable choice.

The WOW factor: it’s lockable! With the rates of theft while equipment is sitting in storage or at the campground, use the PowerArmor locking storage box to keep your items safe and secure.

Click here for more information on box sizes and part numbers.

Solar-panelZamp solar panelOpt for a solar powered advantage
Securely storing tools, camping gear and other equipment isn’t the only perk to the PowerArmor storage box. If you’re planning on storing batteries, you’ll want to upgrade to a PowerArmor Solar. Why? This aluminum storage container with locking capability is ideal for keeping your RV batteries healthy, charged and ready for use. The Zamp solar panel attached to the lid uses sunlight to trickle charge the batteries within, prolonging battery life up to 400 percent. After sitting in storage your batteries lose charge and quickly become duds. RV batteries are also easy targets for thieves looking to make a quick dollar. In these situations, replacing expensive batteries in which you’ve already invested can nearly break your bank.

The PowerArmor Solar also comes in MAX size giving you flexibility to put the dividers to use, sectioning off space for both batteries and equipment.

Both the PowerArmor and PowerArmor Solar locking containers for batteries, RV equipment, and camping gear are perfect storage solutions for RV living. Free up limited interior space and create new spaces outside the RV to bring along necessary gear that would otherwise overload and overcrowd living space.

#2) Lock and Load cargo carrier

are available in two sizes

This space-saving cargo tray is also a great contender for exterior RV storage solutions. As a receiver hitch accessory for either front or rear hitch, the locking cargo carrier is ideal for securing heavy generators, gas cans, grills or even fire wood. The beauty of the locking cargo tray is that you’re able to simultaneously store, lock and run your generator. Keep the fumes and noise from a generator outside of your truck and RV by mounting it to the Torklift International Lock and Load.

#3) Hidden Power under vehicle battery mount
Torklift International HiddenPower under vehicle battery mount is your secret weapon. Not only does this bolt on mount for an extra battery stay tucked up away from view underneath your vehicle, it doesn’t impair ground clearance and gives you extra power when you need it most. The battery ties directly into your truck’s charging system with the HiddenPower Wiring Harness so you never run out of juice. Don’t worry about thieves’ sticky fingers, since they won’t even see that there’s a battery on the vehicle.

Here’s how it works:

The trick to avoiding RV battery theft and achieving a worry-free summer

family-camping
Don’t let stolen RV batteries ruin your ability to camp

Now that summer is here, all you want to do is relax by the campfire and enjoy the starry nights creating quality memories with family and friends. The last thing on your mind should be worry.camp-fire

Not worrying about little Johnny’s flaming marshmallow taking flight as he whirls the roasting stick above his head… Not worrying about the next school season, bill payments or your adolescent daughter’s new high school “boyfriend.” And above all, you should never have to worry about someone stealing your expensive RV and camping equipment.

Like a thief in the night
No one wants to think about the possibility of someone committing crimes while they’re out enjoying nature. Our vacations are meant to be restful, filled with fun and lots of laughter. You’ve spent the time to plan, you’re finally at your destination and then one morning you wake up and wonder why the coffee maker won’t turn on in the RV? You find yourself checking everything; the lights, the TV, the electrical panel and finally, the batteries. Wait a minute. The batteries are...gone.

anti-theftMore common than campground theft, most burglary happens when your trailer or camper is sitting in storage between trips or just parked outside of your house. When you finally take that well-deserved time off for a trip, nothing’s worse then discovering you’re not as ready as you thought you were. The ability to quickly pack up and get on the road is blown to oblivion because scheduling repair and investing in new batteries is now a priority. Tssssssssssss. Do you hear that sound? That’s those expensive batteries burning a hole in your pocket.

Who moved my cheese?
According to a police report in Medford, Or., RV battery theft is on the rise with an increase in battery theft expected throughout the summer months, just when everyone has their equipment and gear ready to go camping or on vacation.

battery-theft-cut-wiringThieves steal batteries and damage wiring

The recent article in RV Pro Magazine mentions how batteries are fairly simple to steal if left unsecured. As more campers, trailers and boats are taken out of storage and parked in driveways or on the street in preparation for summer travel and recreation, they turn into easy targets and attract thieves.

Reports of battery theft are more prevalent each year.

As cited in the article by RV Pro, police Lt. Mike Budreau fell victim to battery theft from his boat as it sat outside his friend’s house. Now he has learned that it’s worthwhile to lock up or lug the batteries into storage to prevent it from happening in the future.

To read the full RV Pro article on battery theft, click here.

save-moneyGypsies, Tramps and Thieves
Thieves have targeted RVs for years as a way to make quick and easy cash. While batteries typically cost anywhere from $75 to $130 a piece, battery bandits re-sell them for a very small portion of profit. Often thieves cause even more damage by cutting wiring. Wiring repairs are a huge hassle. This makes securing your exposed batteries a priority, regardless if where you’ve parked your RV or trailer.

Up until recently, there weren’t many options available. The only solution was to jury rig your own locking contraption or completely disconnect the battery and bring it inside a locked structure. What an annoyance to be bothered with that when you’re just trying to enjoy your time off. So what’s a poor schmuck supposed to do, put GPS locators on the batteries?stop-sign

But wait! STOP THE PRESSES!

Torklift International has developed a new line of locking storage boxes to prevent common and expensive battery theft! Your key to successfully keeping your batteries safe:
the PowerArmor Solar.

Fringe with benefits
We’re not just talking about the benefit of knowing your batteries are secure. The benefits from owning a PowerArmor Solar are that it’s much more than a security feature of the Torklift brand and quality. Whether your RV is parked in your driveway or you’re set up beside the lake, you don’t ever have to be without power.

PowerArmor-locking-battery-boxPowerArmor Solar

Using a 10-Watt solar panel, Torklift PowerArmor Solar battery box maintains the charge of your batteries. By using a trickle charge method, longevity of the batteries increases up to 400% so you can avoid replacing the batteries prematurely. The bottom of the locking storage box is lined with an acid neutralizing battery mat to prevent corrosion caused by battery acid.

And that’s not all...

  1. Made from heavy gauge diamond plate aluminum for maximum durability
  2. Comes with mounting bracket and is designed specifically to access RV batteries avoiding interference with your RV
  3. Multiple box sizes available holding up to five batteries
  4. Adjustable dividers for custom size compartment storage (Max size only)

Don’t squander your power
The choice is yours. You don’t have to be a victim of battery theft. No other home option is as easy to install and provides the level of security as the PowerArmor Solar by Torklift International. Bolting easily to your trailer tongue or camper bumper, you’ll find the locking cargo box provides extra storage for your gear in addition to its security.

Now that Torklift International has helped stop battery thieves in their tracks, there’s no need to think about attaching GPS locaters to your batteries.

Bonus tip for keeping safe from any type of theft at the campsite: Lock it up.

  1. Lock your expensive generator with the Lock and Load or Load and Load SideKick generator tray
  2. Protect your shore power cords with the Fortress PowerLock
  3. Avoid propane tank theft and tampering with a Fortress GasLock
  4. Keep your Torklift RV scissor steps in place with GlowStep Locks
  5. If truck camping:
    1. Look into locking your turnbuckles and tie downs
    2. Prevent camper theft with the FastGun Wobble Stopper

John Spaulding honored with 2015 Jim Barker Award

Recognized for dedication

VANCOUVER B.C., Canada — NTP-Stag Marketing Director John Spaulding accepted the Jim Barker Award during the 41st Annual 2015 Recreational Vehicle Aftermarket Association (RVAA) Executive Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia last week.

During the event, RVAA past president Jim Stark read a letter from Spaulding’s wife.

She described him as a fair-minded supervisor and a man dedicated to his work and the industry, who always does the right thing, even when it’s a difficult decision.

“I will tell you what has kept me standing alongside him for 24 years,” she wrote. “A steadfast sense of loyalty and integrity and an internal sense of optimism. Congratulations on this high honor today, you certainly earned it. Your family is enormously proud of you and we toast you from afar.”

Spaulding was met with a round of applause before suppliers, distributors and RV dealers when he approached the podium to speak.

“This probably won’t happen often, but I am speechless. I am honored, as my wife said. I have made remarkable friends…and I love my work. This is very unexpected,” he said. “I’m here partially because of a lot of you in the room. I’ve had terrific mentors and colleagues that I’ve worked with throughout the years that have helped me temper my quick judgment and forged a more respective approach to working with the market and working with suppliers and customers of all the businesses I have been associated with. I thank all of you for being a part of that. I am not going anywhere, thankfully. I intend to keep my involvement with RVAA very active. I thank all of you for this tremendous honor and I hope I can be able to live up to your standards.”

The Jim Barker award is highly coveted and is only awarded when a worthy recipient is nominated. There are several conference years where the award is not given.

The award is given to individuals who work enthusiastically on behalf of RVAA for several years, who have donated time and money spearheading projects and programs targeted to improve RVAA, served the board of directors or chaired a committee and have dedicated a clear objective to improve the RV industry that is noteworthy of their colleagues and contemporaries.

The 2015 RVAA conference was a record-breaker with 270 attendees including new suppliers and distribution, and sales representatives. Seven dealer council representatives served on a dealer panel to respond to questions regarding effective training methods, distribution and competing with Internet-based dealers. Several attendees were recognized with various awards and new committee members were welcomed as detailed below:

The ladies of All Girls Garage recommend the StableLoad suspension stabilizer

For those that missed the Torklift International StableLoads suspension stabilizer on Velocity Network’s All Girls Garage, don’t worry!

Catch the short clip by watching here:

When it comes to suspension, the ladies of All Girls Garage only recommend products they know will do the job. Recently the StableLoad suspension stabilizer made a significant impact by premiering as their go-to upgrade for any vehicle with overload leaf springs expecting to tow or haul significant loads.

all-girls-logoAll Girls Garage is a popular TV program known for documenting three talented females while they tackle complicated automotive projects with ease. Due to their years of technical experience in mechanics, these women are extremely selective about the parts they endorse.

For those that tow or haul often and are looking for a simple but extremely effective suspension fix for improving handling, the video clip shown above illustrates how the StableLoads should be the first and easiest suspension modification you consider.

As a universal application for any vehicle with factory upper or lower overload leaf springs, the StableLoads activate the stabilizing power within your vehicle’s 4-point suspension to significantly reduce sway, body roll and porpoising when under load.

As explained by Cristy Lee of All Girls Garage, the lower StableLoads application achieves this by rotating the precision crafted wedge plates into the gap between the leaf spring pack and overload leaf spring on the vehicle’s rear suspension.

wedge-packWedge plates to fill gap in leaf springsb2ap3_thumbnail_stableload-display.pngLower StableLoads engaged and disengaged

Since the StableLoads not only dramatically improve poor vehicle handling but also have the versatility of switching on and off, they are an excellent option for folks looking to maximize the use of the their vehicle. Simply engage the StableLoads when needing to tow or haul and disengage to go back to a smooth factory ride.

Torklift International StableLoads are simple to install and are backed by a lifetime warranty. The effectiveness and performance of this suspension stabilizer are of such magnitude that its lifetime warranty even extends to cover your vehicle leaf springs. Give us a call at (800) 246-8132 for warranty details.

Convenience on the coast: Get locked and loaded for a glowing day at the beach

fromme-beach-setupAwesome beach setup! Not many people realize that truck campers are just as fun and handy to have when it comes to day trips instead of a long camping trip. Whether it’s to the beach or you’re planning on tailgating at a football game, use your truck camper to bring all the amenities that you would need for the day, including the convenience of a restroom and a refrigerator for food. A good friend of ours, Keith Fromme who is also known as Languiduck on Rv.net, did exactly that. He took his family and friends on a day trip to the Outer Banks beaches and brought along his truck camper, jeep, and trailer for an exciting day at the beach.

Unique Lock and Load usage
lock-and-load-with-grillBringing a grill is a great way to use the
Torklift Lock and Load

Although the most popular usage of the Lock and Load locking cargo tray is to safely store a generator, we are excited to see new and interesting ways in which customers use our products.

Instead of storing a generator for their day trip, Keith and his family brought along a grill -- What a smokin’ usage of the Lock and Load!

By securing it with the Lock and Load cargo tray, he knew that the Big Green Egg Minimax grill was going to be safe and in his own words, “carried the egg perfectly.” So along with an excellent one-day camping spot, he and his family were able to barbeque right on the beach.

Some key features of the Lock and Load that Keith is using include:

• Protects generators, camping gear (including grills!), welders, tool boxes, plasma cutters and more from theft
• High security tamper proof puck lock included
• The Lock and Load receiver hitch accessory mounts easily into the front and rear receiver hitches
• License plate relocation holes to attach your license plate
• No more heavy-lifting, your heavy gear and generators stay on the tray, even while running
• Avoid fumes and stains by permanently storing your generators or gear outside while on the road or camping

The Lock and Load cargo carrier also comes with a safety visual sight indicator to prevent risk of damage while driving. This prevents any accidents if you forget the amount of clearance you need on the front of your rig.

GlowStep on the beach
fromme-beach-setup2Perfect spot to touch down the GlowStepsAs you can see, the GlowStep make it easy to enter and exit the truck camper by making contact with the ground, even on the uneven and constantly moving sand. With its SureGrip step tread that doesn’t require any grip tape, you know that you can be safe walking up and down those truck camper steps, even with slippery sand on your feet.

There are plenty of other great features of the GlowStep:

• Glows in the dark for up to 10 hours with only five minutes of light exposure
• Self-illuminating steps that don’t need batteries
• You can safely enter and exit your RV after dark
• Stores in position and is lockable
• Add components to create the safest step configuration for you and your family: SafeStep pet barrier, GlowGuide Handrail, DirtDestroyer shoe cleaning brush or the newly available All Terrain Landing Gear for level camper steps

We’re glad to see that Keith and his family had such a great day trip! Our goal at Torklift is to improve the lives of others with quality products that provide safety and convenience. We look forward to seeing our Torklift brand accompany our customers on all of their memorable adventures.

Go big or stay home – Top 4 reasons customers are opting for higher capacity hitches

You’ve probably heard of the saying “Go big or Go home.” When it comes to towing, you shouldn’t leave home if you don’t have the appropriate equipment to tow safely and properly.

towing-with-camperTowing a boat while hauling a truck camperUsually bringing along extra cargo is associated with work or play. Towing heavy machinery or hauling materials, or at the other end of the spectrum you might be towing a fancy speedboat behind a hefty truck camper. I’m sure most of us prefer the latter. Regardless of the circumstances, what a shame it would be if catastrophe hit while on the road. It’s not uncommon that accidents happen and we agree that it’s better to be safe than sorry. Don’t you?

Why are folks opting for higher capacity hitch receiver applications?

1) Versatility – Plans change. Perhaps you want to upgrade or downgrade your towable in the future. To skip the hassle of having to upgrade a hitch later, the highest capacity hitches by Torklift allow you to cover all of your potential weight capacities at one time – with one hitch.
2) Safety – Safety is hands down the most important thing for people and their families. With high quality towing equipment that has endured strenuous testing, know that safety is guaranteed with the high capacity SuperHitch Outlaw Towing Series.
3) Strength – People with heavy duty trucks want to be able to use them to its fullest potential. A lower capacity hitch on a truck with the ability to tow heavier weight hinders the truck's capabilities. With a high capacity hitch, maximize the towing potential and use your truck for what it was designed to do.
4) Convenience – Towing equipment shouldn’t be a worry. With opting for a hitch with a lifetime warranty and the highest capacities, buy one and call it done.

If you tow or haul often, take necessary safety measures by investing in the SuperHitch Outlaw Series. Let’s explore the benefits of using the sturdy combination of a SuperHitch and SuperTruss extension. In other words, what puts the “hitch” in “SuperHitch”?

hitch-outlineHeavy Duty

The SuperHitch Outlaw Series includes the highest rated towing equipment in the industry. Torklift trailer hitches are beefed up and built as a frame-mounted hitch specifically engineered for Ford, Dodge RAM, Chevy/GMC and Toyota trucks.

SuperHitch Magnum 30K – 30,000 pounds pull* | 3,000 pounds tongue weight*
SuperHitch Original 20K – 20,000 pounds pull* | 2,000 pounds tongue weight*
SuperHitch Hero 15K – 15,000 pounds pull* | 1,500 pounds tongue weight*
* When used with weight distribution.

It's often that trucks are used to both tow and haul at the same time. If the cargo in the truck bed blocks the hitch receiver by crossing the threshold of the vehicles rearend, you’ll need specific towing equipment to uphold your ability to tow. An example of this would be towing a trailer while hauling a camper with an overhang.

ballmount-outline

The SuperHitch SuperTruss extension pairs perfectly with each model of SuperHitch to give you the ability and convenience of extending your tow hitch in the safest way possible. Take advantage of the versatility of your tow vehicle by giving it the tools it needs to go big.

Industry Standard

Not only is Torklift’s SuperHitch Outlaw Series the front-runner in the towing industry when it comes to quality, strength and weight capacities, but we’ve also stuck with a design that keeps you in mind.

superhitch-detailsSuperHitch Magnum 30K receiver hitch
First, we’ve chosen a 2-inch by 2-inch dual receiver configuration to be compatible with ballmounts and receiver accessories that come standard in the market. The SuperHitch Magnum 30K comes with a removable adapter sleeve for the ability to extend its upper receiver to 2.5 inches.

Second, we’ve gone above and beyond industry standard by reinforcing each hitch pin location with steel washers to prevent common wear and tear known as “egging” or elongation of the pinhole. Elongation often causes slop or jerking when towing.

chains-outline

When it comes to the design of the SuperTruss extension, it also exceeds industry standard by using patented lateral safety chains. This provides incredible side-to-side support that’s needed when using a hitch extension.

Tie downs

tiedown-outlineWe’ve put careful thought and expertise into crafting the perfect trailer hitch. As a manufacturer of a variety of RV products, we are constantly looking for ways to improve upon convenience. Not only do most SuperHitch applications bolt directly onto the truck frame without having to drill, each hitch is also compatable with Torklift truck camper tie downs.

tc-with-boat
If you’ve ever owned a truck camper, you know it’s crucial to invest in a system that will securely hold the expensive camper to your truck without causing damage to either. Each Torklift SuperHitch is pre-drilled for tie downs making installation a breeze.

Choice

That’s right. Based on your towing needs, choose from SuperHitch Magnum 30K, SuperHitch Original 20K or SuperHitch Hero 15K built for half ton trucks. You also have the ability to choose the right size of towing extension for your application. The SuperHitch SuperTruss comes in 8 different lengths. By adding a receiver extension, know that your towing weight capacities will change. The shorter the extension, the more capacity it can handle. Unlike any other hitch extension, Torklift’s 21-inch extension is rated to safely tow up to 14,000 pounds and handle a 1,400-pound tongue weight when used with weight distribution.

extension-lengths
SuperTruss extension comes in several lengths to fit your needs

The SuperHitch SuperTruss extension comes in lengths from 21 inches to 60 inches (5 feet). Use our measurement guide to determine what size extension you should choose.

High quality

Made in America from US-sourced high-grade steel and welded with precision in our local manufacturing facility in Sumner, Washington, trust that SuperHitch Outlaw Series is the best towing equipment money can buy. Not only are you investing in safe equipment that’s built to last, Torklift SuperHitch and SuperTruss come with Torklift International’s legendary lifetime warranty.

Watch this video to see what Don Clemons from Wisconsin had to say:

“I originally used a factory hitch with an extension and I never felt safe,” Don explains. “When we ordered our newer, larger, heavier trailer I switched out the hitch for the Torklift SuperHitch Magnum with a 36-inch SuperTruss extension… World of difference!”

Don is one of many happy customers who have switched their towing system to the SuperHitch Outlaw Series. Thousands of others depend on this set up to tow safely – even Captain Ray Van Horn of the popular TV show Gypsy Angler relies on SuperHitch and SuperTruss.

Our goal at Torklift International is to provide our customers with safe equipment that speaks for itself when it comes to performance. Go big with Torklift SuperHitch Outlaw Series.

Don’t fall for it -- Relinquish the booster step for your trailer entry with GlowStep Revolution RV Step System

leap-of-faithDon’t take a leap of faith
when you don’t have to
With a brand new travel trailer you’ll quickly discover the downfall to the factory OEM trailer steps. Not only do flimsy foldout steps hover above ground, but they also feel like you’re scaling a springing plank or diving board each time you enter and exit the trailer. The entire RV shakes and shimmies like the California quake of ’94. When exiting your RV do you ever feel like Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade when he took a leap of faith? The gap from the last step to the ground is considerably too large to safely maneuver.

You come to the realization that you’ll need to supplement the step configuration on your trailer. What a shame...Or is it?

GlowStep-Revolution-RV-steps

With the newly introduced and first-of-its-kind GlowStep Revolution step system for towables, all of your trailer step problems are solved. The high quality steps made with aircraft grade aluminum and stainless steel have a smart scissor step design with a lifetime warranty that guarantees your money well spent. Due to the precise attention to quality and level of workmanship, you’ll never have to think about replacing trailer steps once the GlowStep Revolution is installed.

anti-boosterDon’t settle for unsafe booster steps

The GlowStep Revolution is the epitome of safety and convenience. No longer worry about having to haul around booster steps, cinder blocks, pallets or other makeshift homemade steps that only Band-Aid the gap between the bottom of the factory step to the ground. Who wants to carry these items around let alone store them inside their RV? Why not invest in a sturdy and reliable step that will last a lifetime. As an aftermarket trailer step, you can bring the GlowStep Revolution right along with you as you upgrade from trailer to trailer. Installation on towables is so simple, you’ll wonder what took you so long to upgrade in the first place.

What are the downfalls of using trailer step imposters that act as booster steps and how does the GlowStep Revolution RV Step system remedy these issues?

Let’s take a closer look:

STABILITY
Problem: This issue is somewhat obvious when using OEM trailer steps. The up and down movement from entering the trailer causes your coach to rock side-to-side. Factory steps on towables also lack any possibility of adjustment. If using a booster step, the added step to close the gap in step rise is unable to adapt to terrain leaving steps unsecured and wobbly.

Solution: All of the features built within the GlowStep Revolution contribute to its unmatched level of stability. In particular the Earth-to-RV feature and All Terrain Landing Gear take these steps to the next level. Connecting the steps all the way to the ground from the entry door of your trailer is the only way to achieve a rock solid step configuration. Its 3-position adjustment allows easy leveling as you can determine how flat and even your steps sit.

all-terrain-landing-gearAll Terrain Landing Gear
adjusts to level RV steps
With All Terrain Landing Gear there’s adjustability on both sides of the step so you can safely and accurately level the steps to give you that firm feeling of foundation you desire. All Terrain Landing Gear meets any challenge: rocks, sand, mud, snow or sleet. No matter what mother earth puts under your rig, the landing gear remains planted and secure where you put it.

Have the original GlowSteps? The All Terrain Landing Gear is available to purchase by itself and can be added to most scissor steps for leveling capability.

SAFETY
extra-step-to-safetyProblem: Factory steps and booster steps lack adjustability for a wide range of safety needs. With no way to add or subtract a step to the factory step, what you see is what you get.

Solution: With GlowStep Revolution, we’ve taken accessibility to the ultimate level of safety. Since it works as a system with GlowGuide Handrail, pet-friendly SafeStep and more, you can tailor your step configuration to fit your needs. Whether you’re looking to create a safe entry for folks with limited mobility, small children or even your pets, pick and choose the features you need to achieve optimum safety.

STORAGE
gsr-stored-finalGlowStep Revolution stores easily
in the factory step compartment
Problem:
Good luck finding somewhere to store a trailer booster step that isn’t a nuisance. When space is already limited, storing extra cargo and lugging around extra weight is the farthest thing from convenience. Also, you’ll find that factory steps are unable to collapse into the step compartment without hanging down and impairing ground clearance.

Solution: Not only does the GlowStep Revolution deploy in seconds, it stores safely and easily into the body of your RV when not in use giving you greater ground clearance than a factory step provides. The step latches and uses a security pin to keep it safely in place during transit.

STYLE
Problem: Plastic or wooden booster steps disrupt what could be a seamless entry/exit to your RV. Makeshift steps are an eyesore and primarily lack functionality.

Solution: The GlowStep Revolution is a great addition to any towable. The RV step system looks high quality and sleek because its aluminum composition that’s non-corrosive and rust-free. Its strength and longevity come from the carefully engineered design features: stainless steel bushing bearings, anti-slip SureGrip step tread and double bar hinges.

With up to 10 hours of glowing capability from just five minutes of light exposure, don’t worry about lack of visibility at nighttime.

gsr-doublehinge
Steps are double-hinged for strength

So there you have it. The GlowStep Revolution RV step system will tackle any challenge and misfortune your factory trailer steps have been causing you. Recently, we’ve heard several reports of RV manufacturers recalling RVs due to faulty steps. Take your safety into your own hands (or feet in this case) by trusting the GlowStep Revolution RV step system.

A seal of approval: the FastGun truck camper turnbuckle “O-Ring”

ram-with-truck-camper
Loading a truck camper for the first time may be tricky

You’ve outfitted your truck with Torklift TRUE Frame-Mounted Tie Downs and purchased FastGun truck camper turnbuckles. The anticipation of loading your truck camper onto the truck for its maiden voyage is getting you pumped up with excitement. You’ve even prepped your truck’s suspension with Torklift International StableLoads to help your vehicle stabilize the weight of the camper and eliminate any potential of handling issues.

If you’re a truck camper newbie your first experience might be similar to the following:

loading-a-camper

Back it up, Like a Mack truck
Once you’ve engaged the StableLoad suspension stabilizer into the gap of your truck’s leaf springs with the quick turn of a 3/8-inch ratchet, carefully remove and store the tailgate of your truck. Raise the camper jacks to the proper height above the truck bed to make way for loading. It’s important to load the camper so it’s positioned straight in the center of the truck bed. Line up the truck and watch for clearance on the wheel wells. It might be easier if you have a spotter to help you navigate while in reverse. If this is your first attempt at loading a camper, you’re probably on the verge of beast mode. We suggest going very slow and having patience. Make sure any power cords are clear of the camper so they don’t get cinched underneath it. Lower the jacks and camper into the truck bed and Touch Dowwwwn! Just like Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch.

Connect Four

connect-fourPopular board game
by Milton Bradley
Once the camper is loaded on the truck, you’re ready to Connect Four. We aren’t playing games with you. It’s so easy even Milton Bradley could do it! Connect the truck camper to the vehicle using all four camper anchor points. The important connection from the truck camper to Torklift’s frame-mounted tie down system will achieve the most stable and secure truck camper set up available. Even though there are several styles of truck camper turnbuckles to choose from, the Torklift International FastGun turnbuckle is the fastest and most convenient turnbuckle.

How to install and adjust turnbuckles? Watch this video:

You may have noticed the “spring tension indicator” or O-ring on some of the camper turnbuckles. It’s popularly recognized on the number one selling truck camper turnbuckle worldwide, the Torklift International Original FastGun with quick-disconnect capability. Click here to see how to achieve the correct amount of tension needed and how the FastGun is literally the easiest “set and forget” turnbuckle installation. The FastGun turnbuckle allows you to connect four in less than four minutes…Voilà! The stars align.

Great things come in small form
Let’s take a closer look at the little black rubber band on the FastGun turnbuckle’s threaded rod. At this point you may be thinking, “Hold the phone – what is this dealy-bob?”

b2ap3 thumbnail fg-indicatorO-ring on Torklift turnbuckleThis O-ring is what we like to call a “spring tension indicator” because that is exactly its function. It indicates the amount of tension in the spring within the turnbuckle, allowing you to gauge how many pounds of tension is securing your camper. Don’t underestimate the convenience of this feature as great things really do come in small form.

Truck camper manufacturers recommend 300 pounds of pressure be applied on all four points to properly hold a truck camper to a truck. The spring-loaded function is crucial because it allows some give while driving on rough and bumpy roads. The spring mechanism protects both your truck, tie down system and camper anchor points from any possibility of damage.

Seal of Approval
Since this O-ring is much like a seal for bolt configurations, many people overlook its true purpose. Since the coil spring is located inside the stainless steel body of the turnbuckle and not directly visible, we depend on the use the O-ring feature to tell us what’s going on in there.

o-ring-on-fastgun

tension-before-afterWith a FastGun turnbuckle, here’s how it works in 4 simple steps:

  1. Adjust turnbuckles into place
  2. Align the O-ring to the bottom of the turnbuckle body
  3. Snap down the quick-disconnect handle of the FastGun turnbuckle
  4. If the O-ring lowers by a quarter inch, you’ve achieved the correct amount of turnbuckle tension

If the O-ring or spring tension indicator is in the right position on your truck camper turnbuckle, consider it the “seal of approval” that you’ve successfully set up your truck and camper. Go forth and enjoy the adventures of the truck camping lifestyle.

glowstep-revolution-atlgAll Terrain Landing Gear levels trailer steps

We use and created a specially engineered hinge design unlike any other in the industry and is the only scissor step system designed for towables, fifth wheels and side entry campers. We had a Q & A with a couple of engineers from our team about the GlowStep Revolution. Below are their responses:

How did you come up with the GlowStep Revolution design?
We measured many different trailers to determine the most common step bracket widths and hole spacing. After some testing, we found that when trailers aren’t parked on level ground, the height of the door could change significantly. Other step companies counter this problem by preventing the steps from contacting the ground and allows more movement with their lower steps. This adds a lot of stress to the trailer’s frame, but our design, with All Terrain Landing Gear, is much more stable with the bottom of the steps resting on the ground.

We also designed our mounting bracket to allow the top step to be adjusted up and down as well. With both the mounting height and lower steps being adjustable, it keeps any one step from being too tall for people.

What was the process of creating the GlowStep Revolution from idea to final product?
Step 1: Research how current steps are mounted
Step 2: Design a prototype
Step 3: Test the prototype and look for ways to improve the product
Step 4: Redesign the mounting bracket to add in more adjustment and make other minor tweaks based on customer feedback
Step 5: Strength test the system to verify calculations
Step 6: Created drawings, bills of materials, jigs for production, and write instructions for installation

What about the glow in the dark aspect of the GlowStep Revolution?
Brought over from our other GlowStep line. We often hear how much our customers love it and is one of the most useful features of the product. It was a no-brainer to carry the glow in the dark feature into the new GlowStep line.

What is coolest part of the GlowStep Revolution for our engineering department?
The upper step adjustment mechanism that relies on an indexing plate and lever mounted cog to hold the plate in position.

There you have it folks, from the creators own mouths! Make sure that you go check out the article in Trailer Life Magazine and learn all about all the amazing features of our GlowStep Revolution!

Why choose Torklift towing products? One man’s recipe for retirement on the Canadian countryside

retired-clockNow that it’s time to retire…

What are you going to do with all your extra time?

That’s the question many retirees seem to hear all the time when they make that decision to retire. Funny thing is, it seems like once you settle into retirement, you find you don’t know how you ever worked.

Mama your babies grew up to be cowboys...
horseback-ridePritchard and his horse JDWhile many of those who are close to retirement can remember the days of black and white television and the old Hollywood Westerns; playing cowboy and dreaming of riding ‘Old Paint‘ across the wide open plains, is a distant childhood memory we rarely think about. That is until we hear a story like Stu Pritchard’s, a man who made those childhood memories a part of his Golden Years.

In an online article by Truck Camper Magazine, the popular publication interviewed recently retired Pritchard in an effort to give us a glimpse (or maybe, just to ignite a little envy?) into Pritchard’s lifestyle now that he has the time to enjoy the things he loves the most: Trail riding with his horse and truck camping in the Canadian Rockies.

The road to get there
Pritchard first fell in love with backcountry camping while he was a Cadet in the Canadian Armed Forces in Survival Training School. When he and his wife purchased their first truck camper it was to haul a tow glider trailer during his days as a glider pilot. They bought their second truck camper so they could tow a horse trailer when they began breeding Tennessee Walking Horses. You can imagine the stress of those tow loads: Camper, horses and the trailer in addition; there’s a lot to consider when outfitting his truck. Pritchard recognized that towing with a camper overhang would demand more than what a factory hitch could provide. When asked how he did it during his interview with Truck Camper Magazine, Pritchard’s answer wasn’t surprising: Torklift SuperHitch and SuperTruss.

Getting (Super) hitched
No one gets to retire unless they’ve worked for it. Pritchard put in the time and now enjoys the spoils of the good stuff that comes from knowing he did his job well. That also means doing the homework to make sure he’s protected his investments, right down to the towing hitch and receiver extension he uses to tow the horse trailer behind the truck camper. Clearly Pritchard knows that life off the grid requires a need for stability and durability.

From the interview with Truck Camper Magazine, Pritchard explains how he uses the “well-designed Torklift SuperTruss Extension System.”

pritchard-supertrussTorklift SuperHitch and SuperTruss Extension
on Pritchard’s rig
“The SuperHitch dual receiver has two, 2-inch bar inputs [receivers],” says Pritchard.

The dual structural steel square tubes of the SuperTruss receiver extension are designed to fit directly into the SuperHitch, encompassing a towing system of massive strength.

“[The SuperTruss chains] form a triangle from the extension bar to the truck,” continues Pritchard. “This triangle makes it so that the extender is solid and not wobbling. The Torklift system is well designed and the only system I could find with extra chains on the side.”

Fully charged: Q&A with Princeton University’s electric racing team

princeton-u-race-teamPrinceton Racing Electric teamEach spring it’s time for the Formula Hybrid, a highly regarded competition that challenges collegiate students to design, build and race an electric hybrid racecar. The 2015 Formula Hybrid took place April 27-30 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire.

The team of students from Princeton University contacted Torklift after they came across a solar-charged aluminum battery box featured on our website www.torklift.com. This off-the-shelf solution would help them with the construction and function of their electric hybrid racecar. This organization of students formed the Princeton Racing Electric team. The team focuses on innovation and hands-on engineering experience while tackling the challenges of the renowned Formula Hybrid competition. The racing event includes a series of events testing the performance of each open-wheel, single-seat racecar that concentrates on innovation, fuel efficiency and most importantly education.

How could Torklift help? As experts when it comes to battery charging and efficiency, students on the team found the Torklift PowerArmor Solar battery box an influential addition as they crafted their electric vehicle.

Q&A with Princeton Racing Electric

The process of building an electric racecar from scratch and competing against other collegiate level students is all about experiential learning. To further understand the goals and experience of the team, we sat down with Princeton Racing Electric President Hafeez Sulaimon who spoke on behalf of the team.

Torklift: What was the team’s favorite part of the 2015 Formula Hybrid race?
Princeton: For the team, the best part of Formula Hybrid was arriving at the competition, meeting the other teams and seeing the cars they’ve come up with. While school rivalries are fierce, there is a great sense of camaraderie amongst all of the schools… Teams sharing tools and ideas all in an effort to help each other make it past the rigorous technical inspections. It’s a sight to behold and it was an amazing feeling for us to be a part of that story this year.

Torklift: What was the most significant challenge your team faced during the building process? Were you able to overcome?
Princeton: The most significant challenge the team faced was lack of technical expertise in the area of battery-electric powertrains during a large portion of the project. While our mechanical systems were close to completion by mid-February, powertrain development lagged behind. The powertrain of the vehicle was by far the most technically complex system on the vehicle, not only because it was electric but also because there were pages upon pages of technical regulations regarding installation of several safety and shutdown systems of the vehicle. At the end of February, we were fortunate to take on a new member with a good background in other kinds of electronics. With his positive attitude and interest in project, we were able to turn things around. Powertrain development began progressing enough for the team to believe we could get the car running in time for the competition.

race-iconsTorklift: How did you use the PowerArmor Solar battery boxes?
Princeton: The PowerArmor Solar boxes were used as a lightweight and compact container for the vehicle’s batteries and shutdown circuitry. We mounted a battery box on each side of the car, placed inside of a steel tube cage, which was integrated into the chassis design. Each battery box contained two 24 Volt Li-Ion battery packs which were connected in series for a total vehicle pack voltage of 100V.

The series connections inside each box were easy to make, as there was space for both batteries and additional safety circuitry in each PowerArmor Solar box. The aluminum composition was important for the racecar because it was lightweight. Aluminum is also corrosion resistant which ensures the structural integrity of the box for years to come. It also acted as a firewall if anything were to go wrong with the batteries. The batteries sit right next to the driver on each side. While the chassis itself already has firewalls installed, the aluminum battery box served as a second layer of protection.

Torklift: In what ways did the Power Armor Solar contribute to the success of the racecar?
Princeton: Having a complete off-the-shelf solution that met our strength and weight requirements freed up manpower to tackle other incomplete areas of the vehicle. Due to its rigid aluminum feature, we ended up mounting a few extra safety systems such as high voltage indicator lights, fuses and relays directly inside each box. Since they could be secured inside of the battery box, it meant that we could isolate our entire high voltage battery pack and monitoring systems from the rest of the car. The team liked the diamond plated aluminum boxes with black powder coated trim because it looked sharp, too!

Torklift: Why is the Formula Hybrid important to students at Princeton University?
Princeton: Formula Hybrid teaches students about the importance of time management, good communication skills and practical engineering design. Formula Hybrid cars are primarily constructed by Princeton students working with a small budget. This forces students to think critically about ease of manufacture and cost effectiveness of each part they design. Students who have a solid grasp of these skills and concepts are highly desirable by employers in the industry.

grade circled
In conclusion, Torklift International is extremely impressed with the students of Princeton University and their commitment to exploring applied engineering and management.

The 2015 Princeton Racing Electric team was composed of 12 students from all class years: Santiago Aguirre, Kirk Robinson, Ben Sorkin, Tarik Dzanic, Joseph Yates, Nathaniel Kavaler, Rachel Herrera, Hafeez Sulaimon, Jeremy Mehl, Lucas Amber, Po Wah Moon, and Richard Cheng.

StableLoad Challenge is back again: What’s the point of 4-point suspension?

If you’ve seen our first go at the StableLoad Challenge, it’s clear that those who tested the StableLoad suspension stabilizer are convinced on its ability to remedy handling issues of a loaded down truck. In hopes of echoing this approval, we took the StableLoad Challenge to Everett, Washington.

What’s the StableLoad Challenge?

Could they tell the difference?

When we rolled on up to Everett from our manufacturing facility in Sumner, Wa., we were excited to introduce the StableLoad Challenge to Torklift dealers attending a dealer training session for Torklift products. Take a look at what these folks had to say about their experience:

How was the StableLoad suspension stabilizer so successful in solving side-to-side sway, body roll and other tedious handling characteristics caused by hauling heavy loads or towing trailers?

Let’s take a look at how suspension works on your vehicle.

Originally, vehicles are designed and built with four-point suspension.  Each of the two rear leaf springs has two points of suspension on each end of the leaf spring giving you four total points of control.

Your vehicle’s factory engineers invest millions of dollars to ensure a four-point suspension system because it provides a needed compromise between your ride quality while towing/hauling and also the ride quality while driving unloaded.

Other suspension products diminish the factory four-point suspension and reduce the control points to only two. For example, airbags take all of the weight that you are applying to the truck by lifting it above the leaf springs. By placing weight onto just two airbags, you may have successfully leveled your ride but unintentionally created issues with side-to-side sway and bounce.

Other aftermarket suspension products create the opposite effect of the control that 4-point suspension provides.  Two-point suspension provides only minimum control. Just like two heads are better than one, four points are better than two. Simple concept, yet a mind blowing difference.

Teaming up with your factory suspension
teamworkStableLoads are the only suspension upgrade that works with your factory suspension and continues to use all four points of the suspension. By pre-engaging the vehicles already existing factory installed overload leaf springs, the vehicle is prepared in advance for the effects of heavy payload caused by towing and hauling. Using precision laser-crafted wedge plates, the lower StableLoad application eliminates the gap between spring pack and lower overload leaf springs.

wedge-packWedge plates to fill gap in leaf springsb2ap3_thumbnail_stableload-display.pngLower StableLoads engaged and disengaged

Translation? The truck isn’t required to drop several inches from the weight of the load in order to initiate the support needed from its overload leaf springs. By maintaining the four-points of contact, the suspension is being used with the maximum potential in which its factory engineers intended.giftThere are benefits to working with factory suspension

Teaming up comes with benefits
Trucks are expensive. You pay a lot to have comfortable ride quality and when you load your truck down, you’ll say sayonara to that once enjoyable ride. If your expensive truck rides like a dream, would you want to modify it to ride like dad’s old ‘76? Meh. We think not.

switching-on-modeTurning the StableLoads on is simpleWith the lower StableLoads ability to be turned on and off, you can change the settings of your vehicle. When towing or hauling, simply turn on the StableLoads to engage the suspension sooner giving you a stable ride and dramatically reduced side-to-side sway, body roll and porpoising. StableLoads allow you to have the stiffer/towing ride when you need it, and the smooth factory ride when you don't.

Why choose StableLoads over Airbags?
As previously noted, airbags provide only two points of contact on your factory suspension as opposed to the original four points. Airbags take the weight of the towing or hauling load off of your suspension and essentially redistributes it onto two balloons. This causes a teeter-tottering effect. With airbags, the weight can shift back and forth causing your factory suspension to become disengaged. Click here to learn how airbags affect your suspension.

Backed by Science
We’ve heard thousands of success stories from those who’ve turned to StableLoads instead of other suspension products. Even with real-life feedback from those who took the StableLoad Challenge, we wanted to provide factual data based on actual side-by-side comparisons between Stableloads and other suspension products. By using precise motion measuring devices, we’ve discovered significant scientific information that strongly supports the glowing testimonials from our happy customers. Click here to see the science behind the StableLoads and you’ll be shocked at what we revealed with our experiment.

The StableLoad suspension stabilizer is easy to install and applicable to any truck, van, SUV or small commercial vehicles with factory overload leaf springs. Find your application or click here to learn more about Torklift StableLoads.

SuperTruss: The cure to your hangover

cureWhen it comes to towing, determining the correct configuration and proper towing equipment can be a headache, sadly like a hangover.  But the hangover we’re talking about is hauling something that blocks access to your trailer hitch, preventing you from hooking up that boat or trailer behind your rig. Also known as an overhang, this could be the case if your truck bed is often home to a truck camper, sled deck, or hauling something that requires the tailgate down.

To remedy your towing troubles, we know just the trick to towing a trailer with this so-called “hangover” situation. The cure: Torklift International SuperHitch SuperTruss extension.

super-truss-burst

SuperHitch and SuperTruss hitch receiver extension

Use your words
All you knew when you bought the truck camper was that you wanted to haul your boat and take camping trips with the family all summer long. But hold up -- What are all these unfamiliar words being tossed around? When you go to install the trailer hitch and the guy says, “What are you towing?” The short answer is, “My boat.” Then you realize that your camper prohibits the boat trailer from hooking up properly. Whoops. So what does that mean in terms of what you need? Start here…

Did you know that the payload of the truck and the towing capacity have two different meanings?

towing-with-overhangTowing with truck camper overhangThe payload usually refers to how much weight a truck can carry in both passengers and cargo (and this includes the camper on the back), and the towing capacity refers to how much weight a truck can safely tow. The payload can include the tongue weight, which is the portion of trailer weight bearing down on the trucks hitch. These are important things to have right. Luckily, the SuperHitch Outlaw Series has all the equipment needed to tow safely.

gavelIt is what it is
The towing capacity of your receiver hitch does not override the maximum capacity ratings assigned by the vehicle manufacturer. Unfortunately, you can only safely tow or haul as much as the lowest set rating on either truck, hitch or hitch extension. Maximum capacity ratings listed by the manufacturer are absolute and set for a reason. There isn’t any magical cure you can try that will alter that number. You can, however, upgrade your hitch to maximize the towing capabilities of your truck and avoid the limitations of the factory hitch. This way you are only bound by the towing limitations of your vehicle instead of the hitch. Often times a truck is outfitted with a hitch that is not strong enough for the truck. When it comes to adding a receiver extension for your hitch, know that towing weight capacities will change.

An extension by any other name is not the same
Not just any towing extension will do. When weight capacities correlate directly with safety and the lives of you and others on the road, it’s no surprise why we take this so seriously.

supertruss-customerDual truss design on SuperTrussA longer extension has less capacity than a shorter one that has the ability to handle more stress and added weight. Why does the SuperHitch SuperTruss have the highest capacities in the industry?

Top three reasons:

batman-robin#1) Dual truss design
This is the only towing extension in the industry with two tubes. With the reinforcement and strength from the dual truss design, Torklift is able to achieve the highest weight ratings for towing in the biz.

The SuperTruss fits perfectly into the double receiver of any SuperHitch from the Outlaw Towing Series. Partners in crime…two peas in a pod…the dynamic duo. You understand.

#2) Lateral-support safety chains
Also unique to the SuperTruss design, the patented safety chains strengthen the towing extension from moving side-to-side.

#3) Reinforced hitch pin locations
The spot where the hitch is attached to the towing extension uses a large pin. When towing regularly, “egging” or elongation can occur. The slop ends up creating more slop, until you have to replace your equipment. Since we reinforce the hitch pin locations on the SuperTruss, you can avoid this issue altogether. Less headache!

Size Matters
Whoever said size doesn’t matter never tried to tow a boat and large camper with too short of a hitch receiver extension.  Not only that, remember when we mentioned that the size of the hitch extension has a dramatic effect on towing capacities? Use our easy measurement guide to determine the appropriate extension size for your set up.

The Torklift International SuperTruss Extension is available in eight different lengths to handle even the worst of hangovers. In the case of receiver extensions in relation to capacities, bigger isn’t always better. From 21 inches to a whopping 60 inches or 5 feet, the SuperTruss is perfect for larger campers or anything that extends past the truck bed.

Take a look at the SuperTruss extension capacities here:

truss-capacities
F1 - Trailers Gross Tongue Weight (GTW) when fully loaded
F2 - Trailers Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) when fully loaded

When used with weight distribution, the ability to tow up to 14,000 pounds when using a 21-inch extension is not something you can find from other receiver extensions.

LegendaryLifetimeWarrantyWe put the truss in trust
We’ve made it easy to put your trust in the Torklift SuperTruss. As a noun “Truss” is meant to indicate a brace or support. Make it a verb by adding a “T” and you’ve got yourself a sense of security. These meanings embody the true definition of our SuperTruss hitch extension. Covered by Torklift’s Legendary Lifetime Warranty, the SuperTruss is made in the USA.

If you have any questions or need help to steer you in the right direction, please call our towing experts and technical support team at 800-246-8132. We can help get you in compliance and safe on the road.

Find new roads with a receiver hitch for Chevy that’s ‘Like a Rock’

There’s a lot to consider when outfitting your Chevy/GMC truck to haul your weekend toys around. From horse trailers to boat trailers, wave runners to campers, you don’t just need a truck that can handle the weight; you need a hitch that can handle it, too.

Focus on the road, not what’s behind you
chevy-logoAt Torklift International, we’ve already considered the strength required for your Chevy truck. With that in mind, we’ve developed the high performance, super strength line of receiver hitches featured in the SuperHitch Outlaw Series to carry the load efficiently, safely and effectively. Let’s take a look at the features of Torklift SuperHitch and specifically, why we engineer our designs to work with your Chevy/GMC truck.

Pull your own weight
Depending on what you’re planning to tow, it’s important to select the right receiver hitch based on your truck model and towing needs. Torklift International manufacturers several Chevy truck receiver hitches. Each trailer hitch is made with dual, vertical-stacked receivers that are industry standard 2-inch by 2-inch in size. Both receiver channels boast the same maximum capacity for both upper and lower, so you have the freedom to use as you please. It’s often convenient to use the upper receiver for accessories while towing from the lower receiver. Oh, the possibilities.

SuperHitch Magnum 30K’s frame-mounted receiver is rated up to 30,000 pounds and 3,000 pounds tongue weight when used with weight distribution. Also known as the heartbeat of America, the Chevy truck applications for SuperHitch Magnum 30K don’t require drilling into the Chevrolet truck frame. The SuperHitch Magnum Chevy hitch works with your Chevy/GMC truck to maximize its towing capability. The heavy-duty crossbar and dual receiver channels make the Magnum 30K the highest capacity towing hitch you can find.

Built for half-ton trucks, The SuperHitch Hero 15K is rated at 1,500 pounds tongue weight and 15,000 pounds of towing capacity when used with a weight distribution system. The Hero receiver hitch is the first Torklift International SuperHitch created for half-ton trucks including Chevy/GMC, all of which do not require drilling to install.

Hitch applications vary depending on truck model, bed length and light duty/heavy duty Chevy trucks. To find the right fit for your Chevy or GMC truck, click here.

chevy-towingTowing with a Chevy truckDrive your Chevy to the levee
One of the unique features found on the new 2015 Chevy Silverado is what’s called a Stabilitrak.* This new feature attempts to control trailer sway to “enhance driver confidence while towing a trailer” and by sensing trailer sway, it has the ability to intervene with your truck brakes, reduce engine power and bring your trailer under control again.

This is great news, because when used with a Torklift SuperHitch your safety features just doubled in strength and security. Not only have you reduced any adverse towing effects, but the movement that causes “egging” or elongation is eliminated. Only found on Torklift hitches, reinforced hitch pin locations prevent this type of wear from towing with a Chevy.

If you often tow a trailer or haul a camper with your Chevy truck, look into a simple suspension fix to eliminate excessive sway, body roll and porpoising. Even with the Stabilitrak feature on recent Chevy truck models, the Torklift International StableLoad Suspension Stabilizer has proven to enhance your ride quality when towing or hauling.

handsTeam Torklift
We know that several of our customers are Team Chevy and because of that, we design and engineer our products specific to fit your vehicle. We want you to be Team Torklift, because we know that once you’ve used a SuperHitch, you’ll never hitch your trailer with anyone else’s again.

Other great features of the SuperHitch designed for Chevy:

  1. SuperHitch frame-mounted receivers use industry standard 2” x 2” ball mounts Dual receiver provides options for height variance, therefore reducing the need for more than one ball mount
  2. Reinforced hitch pin locations prevent ‘egging’ or elongation
  3. Pre-drilled for Torklift Camper Tie Downs
  4. Compatible with SuperTruss receiver hitch extensions available in 8 different lengths from 21” to 60” (sold separately)
  5. No-Drill hitch applications available
  6. Legendary Lifetime Warranty

StableLoads are simple to install and have a universal fit for all vehicles with factory upper or lower overload leaf springs. The ladies of All Girls Garage will explain that by taking up the gap between the leaf spring pack and overload leaf spring on the vehicle’s rear suspension, the StableLoads activate the factory intended capabilities within its leaf springs. This provides a dramatic and noticeable improvement in ride quality.

StableLoads are a simple concept and the best solution for suspension on your vehicle. Don’t let us convince you, just tune into All Girls Garage on August 15th to hear why these female gear heads put their trust in the stabilizing effects of Torklift StableLoads.

Swapping out belly bar tie downs for Torklift Tie Downs

Gorton muleypoint
RV.Net user Doy Gorton’s truck and camper in Utah

Necessities of camper life
Truck camper tie downs have always been one of the mainstay anchors of Torklift International’s growing product lines. Now with the newly released Talon Tie Downs made with military grade aluminum, the lighter more durable option is easier than ever to install.

Our Torklift Ambassador and good friend Doy Gorton contacted us recently at an important juncture in the work he is performing on his 1967 Avion truck camper setup. At the time, Doy was running a belly bar tie down system that he was not pleased with due to the trouble it was causing him. Belly bar tie downs are a thick metal bar that wrap underneath the full width of the truck and connect camper turnbuckles to each side.
belly-bar-tie-downsA belly bar tie down removed to make way for
Torklift Talon Tie Downs

“Last year my wife and I traveled about the West. In particular Utah… a spectacular place called Muley Point,” Doy writes. “And we have memories of an unnerving collision with our old school belly bar and a rock outcropping that nearly turned over the camper, and left our rear tie downs broken. How the front tie downs survived is beyond me.”

The collision got Doy thinking about replacing his truck camper tie down system.

Whoever said “Fit” is the new skinny might be onto something
When it comes to the fit of truck camper tie downs, that is.

Ditch the heavy hanging belly and your truck and camper will surely thank you. Talon Tie Downs versus just any other tie down system is like comparing filet mignon to ground beef. It’s about quality and performance. Talon Tie Downs are made specific to individual truck models to ensure the best fitment possible.

gorton-tie-down-installIt’s no surprise that after his past experience, Doy opted to upgrade to Torklift Talon Tie Downs. “I decided to replace the belly bar,” Doy writes. “It gave entirely too little clearance for these close encounters. It probably took away three critical inches.”

(Left image: Installing Torklift Talon Tie Downs)

“I talked to Curt Oetjen of Kamper’s Supply in nearby Carterville, Illinois,” continues Doy. “Curt told me that in his 35 years of experience Torklift is the number one best tie down. He hadn’t seen the new aluminum Talons but agreed to install them for me.”

gorton-rear-tie-downTalon Tie Down installedWith the installation of Talon Tie Downs and the removal of the old belly bar, not only was Doy’s truck weighing 100 pounds less, he also had greater ground clearance and stability than ever before; adding to his sense of safety and confidence while off-roading.

Now that his truck is nice and “skinny” without that belly, there’s more capacity for hauling his camper. The lightweight military grade aluminum Talon Tie Downs were a notable improvement from the belly bar.

Now that Doy’s truck is equipped with camper tie downs that securely mount to the frame of his truck, he is ready to travel to the remote locations he loves to visit with peace of mind that his tie down system is up to par.

Improving on the best in the industry
Torklift International challenged their engineers to develop an ultra high performance tie down that would meet and exceed even the toughest conditions. The creation of Talon Tie Downs was the result of that challenge. By improving upon the already world renowned steel version of frame-mounted tie downs, Talon Tie Downs provide a number of benefits that simply can’t be ignored. Click here to further explore these benefits.
